Printing Science | What are the types of printing inks?

2022-07-26 13:36:00

Ink directly determines the tone, color, clarity, etc. of the image on the printed matter, so the role of ink in printing is very important. With the development of technology, the variety of ink is increasing. The following editors will classify them according to printing methods for your reference.
1. Lithographic printing ink
Lithographic printing ink (referred to as lithographic ink) is a kind of viscous and certain viscous ink, most of which are drying inks of oxidized conjunctiva, which have good water resistance. It can be divided into sheet-fed ink and web-fed ink. The former is mostly fast-drying oxidized conjunctival ink, and the latter is mainly osmotic drying. It can also be divided into offset bright resin ink, offset rotary ink and so on.

2. Letterpress printing ink
Letterpress printing ink (referred to as letterpress ink) is a kind of viscous ink, and its viscosity varies widely, which is related to the printing speed of the printing machine. Its drying methods include osmotic drying, oxidative conjunctival drying, volatilization drying, etc., or a combination of several methods. Letterpress ink includes rotary black ink, book black ink, color letterpress ink, etc.

3. Gravure printing ink
Gravure printing ink (referred to as gravure ink) can be divided into two categories, one is gravure ink, and the other is engraving gravure ink. The former is a very dilute fluid with very low viscosity, which is completely dried by the volatilization of the solvent. It is a kind of volatile drying ink that can be printed on non-absorbent substrates; the latter has a higher viscosity and a relatively large yield value. It is greasy and basically depends on the drying of the oxidized conjunctiva.

4. Stencil printing ink
Stencil printing ink requires good fluidity, low viscosity, fast passage through mesh, rapid penetration and drying after transfer to the surface of absorbent substrate, and good adhesion on the surface of non-absorbent substrate. The drying methods are as follows: volatilization drying type, oxidative polymerization type, penetration drying type, two-component reaction type, ultraviolet drying type, etc. The ink can be divided into transcription ink, screen ink and so on.

5. Special printing ink
Many special inks require thicker inks to perform well, which can be divided into foaming inks, magnetic inks, fluorescent inks, conductive inks, etc. It needs to have the characteristics of no volatile solvent, no odor, no blocking of the net, fast curing speed, strong water resistance, bright color and so on.

The configuration process of ink is more complicated, and its physical properties are also different. Some are very thick, some are sticky, and some are quite thin. These must be comprehensively determined according to the printing method, plate and substrate. Before printing, you can learn more about the printing industry and make the best prints.
